The structures group focuses the following main research areas:
 
BRIDGES AND COMPOSITE STEEL-CONCRETE STRUCTURES
The research encompasses all aspects of bridge maintenance, safety, and management. Specifically, it deals with composite bridges and the development of new methods to the: bridge assessment; safety and serviceability; health monitoring; and the optimization of maintenance strategies.
 
HISTORICAL AND MASONRY STRUCTURES

The Historical and Masonry Structures is main research focused in non-destructive testing, experimental characterization of masonry and advanced numerical simulation, both for heritage structures and new reinforced and unreinforced masonry structures.

STEEL-FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE AND COMPOSITE MATERIALS

The research is focused on experimental, analytical and numerical research of the following two areas: Fiber Reinforced Concrete and Fiber Reinforced Polymer materials for the structural strengthening and rehabilitation.

TIMBER STRUCTURES
The main research is focused on the mechanical characterization of timber and timber composite elements (glass, concrete, steel and fiber), in static and dynamic behavior of traditional, strengthened and innovative connections of timber elements.
